First crayon for early years

Start on art at 1 year

We encourage you to read the entire list of ingredients below. You will find that these bees wax crayons are non-toxic and child-safe. They are meant to be the first art material your child picks-up. So you will find they come in an assortment of 3 shapes that have been designed in consultation with art teachers and occupational therapists. These shapes get your child ready for art, play and learning.

Get-a-grip!

Our crayons get that Tripod grip to develop faster and build finger muscle memory for pencil-writing so kids learn how to hold a pencil. Go on, feel that soft, snug-fit.

Shape designs that teach

Unlike commonly available crayons which have a single shape,
Each Dabble shape has a unique role to play because of the way the child grips a particular crayon. Such educational toys help kids learn how colours blend, mix, shade, create strokes and fill outlines with ease.

And they go on-n-on

These large-hearted crayons are meant for long hours of play. Their special formulation mean they hold their shape and don’t crumble. They definitely give value. Both for your money and for your child.

FAQs

Ask question

1. What age can I start with these crayons ?

On your baby’s first birthday

A child can draw before they can write. Art is fundamental to human expression.

Your toddler is naturally curious and this curiosity is the foundation to creativity. Creativity helps your child become a thoughtful, inquisitive, and a confident learner later on, when she starts school.

Exploration of materials is the basis for creativity and when she grabs that chunky crayon and plays with colours, she makes her first mark on paper and viola….. It’s your baby’s first achievement. She experiences the power of cause-and-effect. This leap in thinking skills is helped along by her new ability to hold things in her hands and fingers.

Colours are a language children can speak easily even when language is not fully developed, infact the process of art exploration aids language development. Colour recognition can provide children with essential learning tools in life. For example, in mathematics, colour recognition is used to categorise, sort, compare and organise. Additionally, shapes and colours help the child make sense of the world arounf them eg it’s a small yellow car and daddy drives a big red car. Also, by teaching your child about colour (including shades, tones and hues) a parent will be helping their little toddler to use colour as a means of creative expression.

Dabble chunkies are specially designed for early childhood. The unique formulation developed by scientists and food technologists contains natural waxes such as Organic Beeswax, Soya wax, coconut oil and FD & C approved colours and tested for Toxins by a NABL certified laboratory in India.

As moms we understand the need for safe art products for children and that’s been our core guiding principle while developing our products. Moreover, the products have undergone an extensive research of over 2 years in consultation with educators and occupational/ art therapists to ensure the colours are developmentally appropriate.

Size.  The Chunkies as the name suggests are 3.5 times the size of the Dabble Playart crayons and are  made specially for little hands on the first birthday. They come in easy to grip 3 transport shapes which are fun and easy to use you on paper. A toddler is ready to use crayons as soon as their pincer grip is developed and Dabble crayons help them to develop the tripod grip for pencil writing in school. Moreover, as the name suggests, the crayons are chunky and don’t break easily.  The Dabble Playart crayons box of 8 is meant for age 2.5+ when a child has developed the grip needed to hold and colour with.
It’s our vision to inspire imagination in children with the medium of colours. The colours come alive with shapes when a toddler is able to relate to the world around them and also grip and move them really easily on paper. It also brings in the fun experience to colours when a parent sings “wheels on the bus’ and moves the crayon on paper. It’s a multi sensory learning experience – Touch, Smell, Sight and Sound when the child hears the song.

Red, Blue and Yellow are primary colours from which most other colours are created. When a toddler is given a primary colour they are able to identify them with ease and also experience them on paper. In the process of exploration, when 2 colours merge eg blue and yellow, they natural learn to create the third colour, in this case green. So unconsciously their cognitive skills are being developed in a fun way by experiencing the science of colours.

Dabble believes in the philosophy of “less is more”

Children are exploring the world and thereby every actio  is to learn how things work. So its important for us as parents to set some basic boundaries right at the start. Tell your baby… “ Crayons are for colouring” and demonstrate how they work. If your baby puts it in the mouth or colours elsewhere, reiterate gently “ Crayons are for colouring”. Also, create a fixed art space for your child to colour. Just like you have dining space for eating, colouring has a space too. It helps your little toddler to know where it can be done. You will be pleasantly surprised to know the your child will only express with colours in the space created for her.

Beeswax never goes bad, but over time it gets a powder called bloom on it. Bloom is a natural process of the oils rising to the surface. While bloom does not affect the way a beeswax crayon colours, it is easily removed by rubbing with a soft cloth.

  2. As a new mother, I always wanted things that were were safe for my baby.
So when I wanted to introduce crayons to my daughter, I stumbled upon Dabble’s page.
Bright colours and those cute design of chunkies instantly attracted me.
Being more than satisfied with the chunkies, I ordered the finger paints.
Now there is no stopping for my little Picasso because I don’t have to worry about my walls or furniture getting dirty, I don’t have to worry about any chemicals that might go in her stomach.
We are extremely happy with all the products and I highly recommend it all the parents.

  3. We won Our first set of Dabbleart chunkies as part of the papathon giveaway last year. It was the prize I was literally pinning my hopes on and it happened, we were ecstatic.
It was the first set of colours my back then 12 month old son, laid his hands and eyes on. The first time he made some squiggles and scribbles and enjoyed it – but when he saw me colour his favourite book character – the caterpillar and other elements from the Very hungry caterpillar, the look on his face is something I will never ever forget and always cherish. It was an absolute Eureka moment for him!!
After that there has been no stopping him, and colouring has become a part of our everyday routine. He has grown particularly fond and possessive about his red dabble chunkie crayon which he doesn’t share with anybody else 🙂

He is now 19 months old and we already use the Dabbleart fingerpaints and Playart crayons too. Because of Dabble and the workshops conducted by them, I realised the importance of art from the start and dedicated a small corner in the house for his art space.
Due to this, he now understands the association that he can do his colouring in either his drawing books or in this space and doesn’t colour anywhere else!
Now, I can also see him put in a lot of thought and intention in his paintings and it really amazes me! Advait also takes utmost care of all his dabble colours and packs them neatly when he’s done. This really tells me a lot about how much he loves them! He also proclaims his creations as ‘his paintings’ and shows them off to whoever comes home or even video calls us!
As a mother, what more could I want than to see my child so happy and engaged and falling in love with art! We absolutely love Dabbling with our Dabble playart colours!

  4. I believe a product should be reviewed by the end user. So, since Little Miss Toha is yet to get into writing elaborate pieces, I am taking the liberty of interpreting her expressions while dabbling. To start with, her play time begins with she fetching her drawing book, demanding her colours. She goes for the brightest among the three primary colours in the pack and has a wide grin when she doodles away to glory on her page. She does not have a favourite. I reckon it has got to do with the fact that all the colours are bright and that’s what appeals to the li’l one, the brightness, reflecting in her smile as well when she colours. The rest, from the right size, to the cute figures in which they come (and of course the safe materials used), Dabble Art crayons are ensuring Toha’s first steps into the world of colours exceeds all limits and possibilities of fun.
